The existing cemetery needed to expand and cater for up to 55 new grave plots, a new design was needed. The existing layout included an overgrown perimeter hedge and very many trees some of which were in poor condition.
An elegant but functional design was conceived for this project, incorporating accessibility, rest and reflection opportunity into the design. The layout was aligned on an existing mature Irish Yew. New paths, hedges and trees were added with a fresh new appearance achieved using uniform headstones and a lawnmower edge around these, helping to keep maintenance low. An Irish limestone paved square was built on the central axis with seating and signage allowing visitors to relax and enjoy the surroundings or to enjoy the new repositioned Calvary Scene. All other paths were surfaced with resin bound gravel giving the space a lift.
